Uber Passenger Sexually Assaulted & Stalked
Cecelia Canales Montero, Fayetteville, NC, and Exotic Dancer at Secrets Strip Club, was placed in what she describes, as a frantic situation after she took an Uber ride home. Allegedly, she was touched inappropriately, while in the car with her Uber Driver, Celesio Newman of North Carolina, teacher and speaker at Inpired2Inspire.
“I’m 4’9 20 and about 100lbs, I didn’t have pepper spray, knife, or a gun on me. I don’t know this man who is twice my size. He kept touching me in the Uber even after I said no multiple times and told him I’m with someone. He continued to act the way he did.” Montero stated.
“The fact people are defending this fucking Uber and saying I lead him on and I laughed about it. Sorry never been in a situation like that before. Let’s get serious for a second. I’m 4’9 20 and about 100lbs, I didn’t have pepper spray, a knife, or a gun on me. I don’t know this man who is twice my size. He kept touching me in the Uber even after I said no multiple times and told him I’m with someone. He continued to act the way he did. Once we got to my apartment building he turned off his car and got out before I even had the chance to. I got out and he continued to try and hug me I pushed him away and told him to get back in his car. Told him countless times to NOT touch me. I walked around my mailbox area for almost 15 minutes someone was outside watching it happen but went into their apartment. That’s when I started recording. I continued to laugh because I’ve heard nothing but horror stories of men not taking rejection well. I was not about to lose my life because of this person who had NO BUSINESS EVER GETTING OUT OF HIS VEHICLE. I didn’t ask for this particular person to take me home. He was an Uber driver and was extremely unprofessional. I do not need to defend myself when he was clearly in the wrong. That is all I have to say about the situation. I hope he no longer drives for Uber since I’m not the first woman he’s done this to.”
The fact that Uber has constantly been in the news for sexual harassment allegations, you would think that strong vetting requirements as a driver would be implemented. But here is the thing, it’s not just Uber Drivers, recently, 11 Uber and Lyft Female Opened Up About Being Harassed by Passengers. This is a big crisis that needs to be stopped.
But hey, when the former Uber C.E.O, Travis Kalanick, was forced to step down over the company’s rolling rape and sexual harassment allegations, the problems continue.
“Rape denial is just another form of the toxic gender discrimination that is endemic at Uber and ingrained in its culture.” Douglas Wigdor, an attorney for one of Uber’s past victims recently stated.
